Health & Safety Guidelines

At Mahaweli Reach, we look forward to welcoming our guests once again. For the safety and protection of our patrons and our team members we have implemented safety and hygiene protocols in keeping with the standards recommended by the Sri Lankan Government authorities and the World Health Organization.

On Arrival at The Hotel

  • Guests will be greeted with “Ayubowan” the traditional Sri Lankan greeting.
  • Guests will be requested to wash hands at the entrance of the hotel.
  • A temperature check will then take place.
  • Physical distancing is encouraged in all public spaces.
  • We encourage guests to bring their own masks. The hotel will provide a mask on request, which will we charge.
  • Guest luggage will be sanitized prior to entering the lobby.
  • Guests will be seated in the lobby and adjacent areas, in keeping with recommended social distancing.

During Check In

  • Guests will be required to fill in the registration card, either in a digital format or on paper. If a pen is used, the pen will be sanitized after each use.
  • Guests are required to provide their medical history through a form that will be provided at the hotel.
  • Information regarding, country of origin, flight number and seat number, date of arrival in Sri Lanka, other countries visited in the last three weeks and next destination will be requested for. (This information may have to be shared with local health authorities if so, requested for)
  • In accordance with guidelines provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and local health & tourism authorities, the hotel reserves the right to refuse hosting any guest displaying symptoms of COVID 19 at the time of screening.
  • The protocols followed by the hotel will be updated to reflect any new standards and procedures introduced by relevant authorities in response to the rapidly changing circumstances related to COVID 19.
  • The use of online fund transfers or credit/debit cards is encouraged in order to minimize the handling of cash.
  • Keys are disinfected prior to issuance.

When Riding the Elevator

  • Four guests are permitted to use the elevator at a given time.
  • The rule of thumb should be used in maintaining the required physical distance.
  • Hand sanitizers are available at all landings so that hands can be sanitized prior to guests entering their rooms.
  • The elevator is disinfected regularly.

When Using Public Areas

Spa

  • Spa services will only be available to in-house guests and after same is permitted by the authorities. The spa is currently non-operational.
  • There will be some limitations to the offerings.
  • Guests will be required to sign a disclaimer in keeping with Government and Ministry of Health regulations prior to obtaining services.

Pool

  • The use of the pool will be available to in-house guests only and there will be a limit to the number of persons entering the pool.
  • Guests will be provided pool towels which are sanitized and packed in individual packaging.
  • Pool towels and sunbeds will be sanitized after each use. Guests are encouraged to drop off used towels at the designated place.
  • Sunbeds will be arranged in-keeping with the safe social distancing standard which is one meter.
  • Chlorination and area disinfection of the pool will take place at regular intervals.

Gym

  • The gym may only be utilized by prior appointment.
  • All equipment will be sanitized before and after every use.
  • Towels will be laundered after each use.
  • Guests will be encouraged to sanitize their hands before and after using gym equipment.
  • A mat for sanitizing footwear will be placed at the entrance to the gym.

Indoor/Outdoor Games

  • The gym may only be utilized by prior appointment.
  • All equipment will be sanitized before and after every use.
  • Towels will be laundered after each use.
  • Guests will be encouraged to sanitize their hands before and after using gym equipment.
  • A mat for sanitizing footwear will be placed at the entrance to the gym.

Boat Rides

  • Boats/Life jackets will be sanitized/ disinfected after every use.
  • Guests will be required to sanitize their hands prior to boarding the motor boat.
  • Guests will be encouraged to drop safety equipment into a designated box after use to be disinfected/sanitized.

Room Care

  • Rooms are sanitized with disinfectant spray and surfaces are further wiped down with disinfectant.
  • Appliances and accessories in the room are sanitized prior to check-in including door locks, AC vents, equipment and furniture.
  • Minimum of guest amenities are placed in rooms to minimize contact however these items can be provided on request. Items include dental kit, shaving kit, comb, vanity kit, shower cap, sewing kits, pens and notepads.
  • Minibar and turndown services will also be available on request.
  • Decorative pillows, bed-runners and celebratory decor will not be placed in rooms.
  • In room dining menu & Directory of Services could be accessed via guest smartphone.
  • Occupied rooms will be serviced while the guest is away.
  • Guests are requested to place used towels inside the bathtub if they need to be washed.
  • The wet linen will be handled separately to the dry linen.
  • All public areas surrounding rooms are also disinfected regularly.

Laundry

  • Laundry operation including acceptance and delivery of laundry will be carried out under stringent safety standards.
  • All staff comply with established health and safety standards.

In the Kitchen

  • Food storage and preparation are carried out under stringent safety standards in compliance with ISO 22000 certification.
  • All staff comply with established health and safety standards.

Dining

  • For group bookings, agents are requested to confirm group meal plans and timings to reserve tables accordingly.
  • We encourage walk- in guests to make prior reservations for dining at the Restaurant.
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers are placed at the entrance to the restaurant.
  • Seating arrangements are done in compliance with social distancing norms.
  • Tables and chairs are sanitized after each use, and wait staff will use a face masks/gloves and/or sneeze guards during service.
  • Tables will be laid according to recommended standards including the presentation of cutlery in pockets.
  • There will be sneeze guards installed at hotels where buffets are available, with allocated serving staff.
  • À la carte service and action cooking stations are introduced where possible to avoid buffet arrangements.
  • The service of alcoholic beverages will be based on government regulations.
  • All menus could be accessed via guest smartphone.
  • Sanitized menus could be provided on request.
  • All venues will undergo enhanced cleaning after each meal service.
  • In room dining will be available with the in-room dining menus accessible through a guest’s smartphone.

Excursions and Entertainment

  • Sports, excursions and activities are available for inhouse guests.
  • Reservations for same can be made via phone call to the Front Office.
  • Entertainment will be limited to selected venues and there will be limitations to group gatherings.
  • Excursion activities may be limited in keeping with social distancing and other safety concerns.
  • Guidelines for sanitation and disinfection in the respective areas will be implemented and guests are encouraged to adhere to same.

Hotel Transportation

  • Our fleet of vehicles are sanitized with recommended chemicals prior to every arrival and will follow the required operational protocols.
  • Guests are requested to wear a face mask during transfers.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available for the use of guests.
  • Cars will accommodate only two passengers per transfer.  Larger vehicles such as vans, will operate at 50% capacity.

While this document provides a snapshot of the procedures implemented, all possible hygiene and safety protocols have been implemented across our operations and we continue to update and adapt as the COVID -19 situation develops. It is our team’s concerted endeavor to ensure the safety of our guests and each other.
